10 Reasons to go slow when you travel

1. Footprints, those dirty little carbon ones
2. It’s cheaper
3. To challenge yourself
4. Because the other people tell you that you can’t
5. Because you realise you can
6. To go somewhere new
7. To learn how to pack light
8. To realise that the journey is important
9. It’s something to talk about over a wine fuelled dinner
10. To travel.

‘A modern day caravan, driven by feet, wheels and creativity’

(Caravan; a number of people traveling together; a moving company, to aid defense against bandits as well as helped to improve economies of scale in trade)

The Caravan Goal: To travel on bicycles the length of the French Western Seaboard, to the Spanish Border, sniffing out surf along the way. Towing carts laden with a variety of surf craft, paints, pens, cameras, paper and anything else which we can best use to capture and create a special journey in this unique part of the world.

The Caravan Ideals: – To respect the earth. We will ride, camp and live within our means, hoping to leave only laughter, good will, broken hearts and other bits of environmentally friendly debris behind.

– To respect the locals and their customs. We shall endeavor to communicate, to blend and to exist with the people on a level never before attempted from the swift and silent seat of a bicycle

- To prove that surf travel and cycling can co-exist together. We will surf, and we will cycle there to do it.

The Caravan: Our team consists of three full-timers, and a spare seat…

James Bowden; Photographer, surfer, aspiring vagabond and Co-Founder of the Caravan

George Foulds: Writer, Fighter, surfer and the Australian half of the Caravan

‘The Third Comrade’: An empty seat waiting to be filled. By invitation only, TBA

The Bourgeois Bicycle Caravan will be a revolutionary way in which we consider the Caravan – yet it will pay homage to past exploits, by remaining loyal to imagination, creation, adventure, sexiness, pride, patriotism, initiative, awareness of environment and the enjoyment of the road with our fellow man.

do-5

What a weekend.

I had the amazing oppotunity to shoot the 2009 ‘Do Lectures’ this weekend in deepest west wales. It was an incredible event, with some incredible poeple attending, It certaintly made me more fired up than ever to get out and get on with my upcoming projects, despite the setbacks…

Money…

none

Time…

lots

ideas…

masses

So, anyway, this is a little call for help. We, myself and my good friend and execptuoately talented writer have a pretty special project coming up. It involves bicycles, the french western seaboard and surfboards. It’s codename…

The Bourgeios Bicycle Caravan

It involves peddling from here…the UK…down to france and down the west coast to the spanish border. With us we will tow laden trailers customised to carry our gear, surfboards, tents and cameras. We have time on our side masses of passion but very little money.

So this is where we need help…we need bikes…of the used variety that will take us on out journey. So if anyone out there has a second hand road/touring/hybrid/postman/anything… bike, that is needing a home and wanting an adventure, I need to hear from you. We have a little cash…so any condition is cool, if it’s broke, we can fix it.

muchus love. James
